Sure, Playa Negra is a sleepy little town. There are only a couple hundred full time residents so it just doesn’t make any sense that there would be first class dining experiences. However, first class dining is just what you will find whether on your vacation or on a hunt for your dream property here in the Playa Negra area.
Cafe Playa Negra
This is probably the best Peruvian cuisine that you will find in all of Central America… maybe Peru included! Apart from their “Buena Onda” (good vibe), Andrea & Carlos have become world renowned for their delectable dishes. Our favourites are their perfect ceviche, chicharones, patacones, and the best passionfruit cheesecake that you will ever eat! Don’t forget they have the best Pisco Sour’s you have ever had!
Villa Deevena
Chef Patrick is heralded by many as one of the best chefs of the west coast of the United States. We are blessed that he landed here in Playa Negra. He has prepared five star meals for many U.S. presidents. He is dedicated to perfection. Here you will find some of the best food in Costa Rica as well as an extensive wine and champagne list that rivals those of restaurants in any first world city.
Gina’s Place
Gina has been a resident of Playa Negra for nearly 15 years. She has been a pinnacle reason for the success of most of the area’s restaurants. So, it stands to reason that her new restaurant is turning out incredible dishes with a local flair. They have multiple big screen televisions and a huge bar. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to eat here!
Restaurante Latino
This is, by far, one of our favourite local spots to eat here in town. It has an upscale ‘Soda’ feel. It is run by some of the kindest people in the area. We have eaten here hundreds of times and each and every time the meal was perfect… arroz con camarones, pescado a la plancha, and the best whole red snapper plate you will ever eat! Costa Ricans say that a restaurant is perfect when it complies with the three B’s… bueno, bonito, and barato (good, pretty, & inexpensive)!
Even More Culinary Delights!
There are considerably more selections with great, I mean GREAT food here in Playa Negra. If you have the opportunity you should also eat at Hotel Playa Negra (beach front – watch the surfers), KonTiki (great pizza from a true wood burning stove), Jalapeños (the perfect lunch spot with burritos, tacos, and more), Bar La Vida Buena (pizza and local dishes – full bar too), and a few more lovely little gems.
