This is only a 30-minute ride to Tamarindo and other awe-inspiring beaches and locations in the area of Northern Guanacaste.[/bsf-info-box]

Playa Negra is a very popular vacation and surfing beach in the northwestern region of Guanacaste. It is known to have some of the most consistent waves and surf breaks in the region. It gained popularity primarily because the movie Endless Summer II was filmed here, this darker sand beach lies south of the lovely Playa Avellanas.

The surf at Playa Negra is generated by a reef which makes waves start and end exactly the same each time. Historically, Playa Negra was a destination for surfers. However, the infrastructure here has increased tenfold. The roads have been improved, telephone installed, fiber-optic network for internet, better 3G/4G cell service, and much more. This is the reason that this destination has changed from surf town to vacation and retirement mecca.

Playa Negra’s adjoining beaches: Playa Junquillal -Hoon-key-al-, Callejones -Kai-yea-hon-ace-, and Avellanas, have all seen the same changes.
Each one has its own special flavor.
Each one is a perfect place to plant roots.
